Police drama, Rampart stars Woody Harrelson as corrupt LAPD officer Dave Brown, heads to Blu-ray and DVD on May 15th. Written by L.A. Confidential novelist James Ellroy and directed by The Messenger Oren Moverman (he also has a writing credit on the film), the 1990s set story also stars Ben Foster, Robin Wright, Sigourney Weaver, and Steve Buscemi.
Special features on the disc include behind the scenes featurettes as well as interviews with the cast and crew.
The first Contraband trailer played up the film’s action sequences and danger with a funky score and gritty title cards was to attract the North American viewers. The new trailer, intended to attract UK audiences, amps up the drama with a more somber soundtrack, slo-mo and multiple shots of a terrorized Kate Beckinsale, who plays Wahlberg’s wife.
Finally the man himself, director Ridley Scott, is speaking about his upcoming film Prometheus, and while he doesn’t reveal a whole lot, there are a few little odds and ends that fans should appreciate, especially considering how starved we’ve been for any info on the flick at all!
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy, Scott explains that the central metaphor of Prometheus is about a “higher being” who challenges the gods, and the gods don’t want to give him fire. “Fire is our first form of technology,” Scott says, and so by taking fire, the higher being is punished “in perpetuity in a horrible fashion.” Much like the story of the mythological god Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus and for his actions was bound to a rock with an eagle eternally devouring his liver.
Speakeasy’s Barbara Chai says she could hear the enthusiasm in Scott’s voice when he discussed the film, which was written by Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts. “I think the reason why I haven’t attempted science fiction in a number of years is because I haven’t really come across a script that I really liked,” Scott says. “This developed and came out extremely well.”
As has been hinted previously, Scott says that the last eight minutes of the Prometheus story evolve into “a pretty good DNA of the Alien one.”
Regarding the use of 3D and CGI, Scott says he has “completely taken off into this cyberworld” and called working on Prometheus “the best time I’ve had in a number of years making a movie.”
Finally, although Scott embraced “all the tricks, the toys” of computer-generated imagery and 3D, he says, “I’m a great believer in filming the real thing if you can, and so I did a lot of building the real thing.” He used the “007? stage (more commonly known as the “Bond” stage) at Pinewood Studios in the UK, one of the biggest stages in Europe at about 59,000 square feet, as well as other stages at Pinewood.
The movie stars Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Patrick Wilson, Logan Marshall-Green, Ben Foster, and Michael Fassbender. Prometheus will be in theaters on June 8th, 2012. (Source)

Guy Pearce, Ben Foster and Kelly MacDonald have been cast in Steve Buscemi’s film adaptation of Queer. Buscemi will direct the script penned by Oren Moverman, reports Paste.
Moverman apparently said that he hopes filming for Queer will start when Buscemi wraps the next season of Boardwalk Empire. “Queer” is based on William S Burroughs’s short novel which was released in 1985 – more than 30 years after Burroughs wrote it.
The story follows William Lee, who lives in Mexico amongst expatriates in the 1940s. Desperate for human contact and to satisfy his sexual needs, Lee tries to seduce Eugene Allerton, who is disinterested in Lee’s advances but eventually becomes his reluctant lover as they travel to Ecuador in search of the drug Yage. Magnolia Pictures has acquired US rights to the Fernando Meirelles film, 360. 360 is a globetrotting human drama from a screenplay by Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon) that made the film festival circuit this fall. Meirelles, who’s best known for directing City of God and The Constant Gardener, reunites with Rachel Weisz for a story that attempts to connect multiple individuals as they confront personal issues pertaining to sexual and social relationships. In addition to Weisz, the 360 cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Jude Law, Ben Foster, Jamel Debbouze and Moritz Bleibtreu.
“Fernando Meirelles and Peter Morgan are two exceptional talents that have crafted a unique and truly special picture,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. “360 is a stunningly well made film, and a fantastic showcase for some of the most talented actors from around the world.”
The film has had its own passport punched a few times. It world premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, opened the BFI London Film Festival, and opened in Sweden on Oct. 19. But early reviews so far have been mixed, with critics praising the cast but wishing Morgan and Meirelle had found a stronger line to connect the film’s floating protagonists. The most positive 360 review on Rotten Tomatoes comes from Mark Adams of This Is London, who admits, “360 is not a film to love easily.”
But Magnolia has shown the capacity to place challenging films in front of suitable audiences, and they no doubt will rise to the challenge with 360. They plan to avoid this year’s awards race with Meirelles’ film, announcing a theatrical release in 2012 in all major U.S. markets, though they say in a release that the film will be “bolstered by a prominent film festival presence leading up to release.” (Source)
